There are many things that can cause cancer. But you can also fight back against cancer through changing the way you eat. Even rare cancers like pleural mesothelioma, a frightening form of cancer, have been countered through including certain cancer fighting foods in the diets of patients.

There are 12 cancer fighting foods you should include in your diet to help protect yourself or enhance your survival chances.

Leafy Green Vegetables
The benefits of leafy green vegetables are they’re pumped full of vitamins, minerals, enzymes, and antioxidants. This applies to all leafy green vegetables, including kale, spinach, and watercress. Antioxidants are vital for beating cancer, so you should fill your diet with them.

Cruciferous Vegetables
Vitamin C is just as important as antioxidants for fighting cancer. Cruciferous vegetables are also filled with glutathione, which is one of the most powerful antioxidants available.

The cruciferous category of vegetables includes broccoli, cabbage, and cauliflower. You should try to aim for at least one or two kinds of cruciferous vegetables within the majority of your meals.

Berries
Practically every type of berry you can think of has a high antioxidant level. Whether it’s strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, or any other type of berry, you’ll find them filled with antioxidants. They’re also filled with vitamin A and vitamin C. These are all vital for enhancing and reinforcing the immune system.

There’s a reason why the goji berry has a long history dating all the way back to traditional Chinese medicine!

Nuts
Nuts are important because of the healthy fatty acids used inside of them.  Popular nuts for fighting cancer include almonds, brazil nuts, and walnuts. You should aim to eat a few handfuls of these per day to ensure that you have a healthy and well-balanced diet.

Cultured Dairy Products
Good bacteria are essential for balancing out the bad bacteria. You need these in your gut to promote a healthy balance of microflauna. This all contributes to improving your immune system. Probiotic foods have the potential to prevent the growth of tumors and to promote the growth of new cells.

Cheese, yogurt, and kefir will fill your gut with the good bacteria you need.

Pulses
Eating well to fight cancer means giving your body all the nutrients it needs. For those smaller nutrients like zinc and magnesium you should try to add some pulses to your diet. Just a half cup of peas or beans per day can give your body what it requires to keep it healthy in the fight against cancer.

Mushrooms, Beetroot
Mushrooms and beetroot are similar in that they fight inflammation and have been proven to fight cancer cells. They’re high in both vitamin D and vitamin B. They also support cardiovascular health, so nutrients and oxygen are transported around your body at the rate they should be. Think of it as your body’s engine.

Organic Meats
Organic meats, such as chicken liver and beef, have some of the highest nutrient levels per pound in the world. They’re extremely high in the vitamin B12, which is notoriously difficult to get enough of. The minerals you take in helps to remove the toxins generated by cancer.

Wild-Caught Fish
Wild-caught fish have the advantage of being high in omega-3 oils. Omega-3 helps fight inflammation and improve the health of the nervous system and the brain. They also can help prevent cancer and boost the effectiveness of cancer therapies. Opt for sardines, mackerel, and salmon for the best results.

Seeds
Seeds, such as flaxseeds and chia seeds come with high levels of omega-3, fiber, and fatty acids. They’re also simple to eat as they can be consumed quickly and easily added to smoothies and juices. Try to get at least two tablespoons of these seeds every day.

Garlic, Ginger, Broccoli, Tomatoes
What do these four foods have in common?
Studies have shown that they contain chemical compounds that actively fight against cancer tumors in the same way as chemotherapy. This compound has the potential to kill cancerous cells and even deal with side effects, such as dissolving kidney stones.

Fresh Herbs and Spices
Turmeric is one of the most effective herbs at destroying cancer. The ingredient curcumin has been attributed to decreasing the size of tumors like those associated with mesothelioma.
